Is the cost justified? I don't know... August 3, 2010 Danny TBH, I expected a bit more for $10 per mug. I expected a more solid mug; when they came I was surprised at the somewhat lighter feel compared to other mugs I had. Also to the reviewer who said "excellent thermal qualities," I'm not quite sure what you're talking about - when you fill up the mug with near-boiling water, the sides are still _extremely_ hot to the touch but the bottom is a bit more manageable, but I can only hold the bottom with my bare hands for up to 15-20 seconds before I need to set it down. I really haven't noticed my tea staying "hotter" than if it was in other standard mugs - if that's what you mean.
The black texture is very smooth and the rim is of sufficient thickness to what you'd expect for a nice mug. The handle is of decent thickness and can fit no more than 3 fingers - which is standard. Also, etched around the bottom rim of the unpainted ceramic are the words "Waechtersbach Germany" - which might be a nice touch for some people, but I find it superfluous since I was expecting a plain, solid look.
So I ask again, is the cost justified? I don't know...maybe you're better off buying the blue mugs and saving $12.

I've been drinking massive quantities of coffee for decades. These are the best cups I have ever owned. Lightweight with excellent thermal qualities. It's like the having an invisible cup since all I notice is the coffee now. Much thanks to the previous reviewers.
Mugs with color January 31, 2010 Christine Striebich (Santee, CA United States) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Searched forever trying to find plain mugs that had the perfect color for a Christmas gift. Finally found these. They were exactly what I wanted!

These mugs are absolutely perfect. The color is a tad more vibrant than the photo but not flashy. These mugs don't seem to chip in the dishwasher and they are an excellent size. Some mugs are too large (just make another cup if you want another) and some are way too small. They are also fairly light-weight - not that heavy diner stoneware. This is in between and should suffice any need. Best thing is there is no staining inside like there is in lighter color mugs and there is no logo or design. The best things are kept simple! I bought two sets so even if I break one somehow I still have enough to go around. If I had more display space I would have gotten a third set. I keep them on a shelf for lack of cabinets and they look pretty; this color goes well with many schemes.

Excellent Mug, well finished, nice feel. Overall a great product. FYI for those interested, this is the red mug House uses on the TV show House M.D.
